The Spoon, from the Anglo-Saxon term spon, meaning ”to chip” or “wood chip” was the first eating utensil. The spoon is the safest, most comfortable member of the cutlery set. It is the easiest implement to use – babies start with spoons- and the one with the most versatility, which is the reason why its employment is constantly being restricted (earlier eating habits used them as knives and often in cases where we use forks today)
